Leptospirosis is serious disease that affects humans and animals, including your pets. Caused by infection of Leptospira bacteria, the occurrence of Leptospirosis has been steadily rising over the past few years.

Leptospira bacteria are spread through the urine of infected animals that shed the virus for several years.

Pets and people can become infected through contact with the urine of infected animals or/and contact with water or soil contaminated with the urine of infected animals.
Common risk factors for infection include, drinking or swimming in lakes, stream, or rivers, roaming in rural areas and exposure to wildlife or/and rodents (even in backyards).

Vaccines effectively prevent leptospirosis and protect dogs. Leptospirosis Vaccinations must be boostered annually to ensure protection.

Good Shepherd Pet Hospital aims to be your partner in your pet’s long-term health and happiness.
