Valerie, Lead Veterinary Nurse
Valerie, with over 18 years of veterinary technician experience, is a California-born native who moved to Florida in late 2014. Before she moved to the Sunshine State, Valerie worked in both California and Arizona as a Veterinary Nurse after a career on the human side of medicine for 17 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Valerie, a founding member of our Good Shepherd Pet Hospital team, has previously experience with startups helping to develop the lymphedema center at Stanford University.
We are glad to have Valerie as part of our dedicated team. She states, “As I transitioned from human medicine to caring for pets, the similarities in both healthcare fields resonated with me. I love my job because I’m in a position now where I can extend my compassion to both humans and animals. Being able to do so, is a big win-win for me!”
Valerie enjoys spending time with her three pugs Fiona, Otis and Spike and spending time with her family. When not playing with her three fur babies, Valerie spends time visiting and playing with her wonderful granddaughter Emma.
Tally, Veterinary Nurse, Customer Service Representative
Tally, another wonderful addition to our founding team, was born in Georgia, yet raised right here in the Tampa Bay area. A natural animal lover, she has been caring for them her entire life, from taking in strays to volunteering at multiple shelters in college. With dreams of one day becoming a certified Wildlife Rehabilitation specialist, Tally has over 6 years of exposure in the animal-health field. Her experience includes studying and completing her degree in Animal Sciences, volunteering in kennels as well as working through an internship for her Veterinary Assistant certification. During the progression of her education, Tally has also attained her Pet Nutrition certification.
Tally is very excited to make lasting connections with both pet owners and our patients at Good Shepherd Pet Hospital. Her favorite aspect of working on our team is her respect for the care and love, our founder Dr. Bassem Deeb, shows for the well-being of each and every pet and their owners. She is also involved with enhancing our social media platforms with great content and photos. Tally’s pet family includes Olivia Grace or “Olive”, a precious Labrador/Whippet mix who she just adores and takes all over town with her exploring new restaurants, fishing, and going to the beach or on nature trails.
Thania, Veterinary Nurse, Customer Service Representative
Thania, our newest member of the Good Shepherd Pet Hospital family, has been working with animals since she was 15. Raised in Tampa, she had animals in her home all of her life (from Chihuahuas to Cockatiels) so she considers herself a well-seasoned pet owner and caregiver. When caring for animals, she always takes into account the comfort level and compassion necessary for each pet. She was in the Veterinary Assistant Program at Tampa Bay Technical Magnet High School where she cared for the daily needs and maintenance of many animals! Those animals include, but are not limited to: dogs, cats, ferrets, birds, bunnies, hedgehogs, guinea pigs, rats, mice, snakes (even a boa constrictor!), fish, sugar gliders, bearded dragons, goats, chickens and pigs. She holds every and any animal in a special place within her heart. She has also volunteered 100+ hours at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, logged clinical hours at the Bakas Equestrian Center: Horses for Handicapped and the Florida Aquarium.
Thania has been a certified Veterinary Assistant through the Florida Veterinary Medical Association under their Animal Care Training program for 7 years. She has also been an official Humane Society of the United States Animal Rescue Volunteer since 2017; assuring that in a crisis she is ready to jump wherever she is needed in our country in order to help save the lives our furry friends. She hopes to continue to refine her veterinary nursing skills under the Penn Foster College program for her Veterinary Technician Certification and then one day take those skills to assist in the high demand pathway of Emergency Veterinary Medicine and even the exciting field of Large Animal Medicine. Thania’s life would not be complete without her 4 adorable pets: 3 Domestic Short Hair cats that go by the names of Lucie, Bella and Cooper and a chocolate lab/pit mix named Redd . She is beyond excited to join the Good Shepherd Pet Hospital team because she knows how much of an impact Dr. Deeb has on serving our community by putting the needs of our pets under his wing.
